Why should I purchase/specify Natural Stone Carpet as my floor covering?

How do I clean Stone Carpet?
Stone Carpet requires similar cleaning methods to other types of hard flooring. Dry vacuuming for dry soiling spot and/or wet cleaning for resistant soiling and larger areas. Please refer to the cleaning and maintenance specifications for specific recommendations.
How resistant is Stone Carpet to damage?
The Stone Carpet range is very durable. Though abuse and neglect will ultimately result in damage to any floor covering, including ours. Our products are successfully being walked on, danced on, eaten on, shopped on and showered in some of the most demanding commercial applications throughout NZ and have retained their integrity and appearance over many years of use.
How do I remove chewing gum from Stone Carpet?
For effective removal of chewing gum we recommend a product called 'Dissolve it'. We do however advise the removal of chewing gum as soon as possible. The longer it is left the harder it is to remove.
Do I need felt or rubber cups on the bottom of furniture?
Under normal circumstances no! Plastic or wooden feet will not damage Stone Carpet under normal use. Please ensure that metal legs and/or feet etc of any furniture have rubber stoppers on them as hollow, sharp or jagged tips will over time damage Stone Carpet.
My Stone Carpet requires a deep/commercial clean. What tips can you give me?

Will chemical spills affect my Stone Carpet?
Each and every stone is coated with strong epoxy resins which are very resistant to many chemicals. Normal household chemicals will not affect our products. However should you be planning to mop your floor with weapons grade plutonium, ( or the like ) please contact us first as I'm sure we can recommend a more benign alternative.
Do I need a special vacuum cleaner for Stone Carpet?
Yes! For heavy wear areas in unfilled Riverstone and Stone Carpet we recommend the use of a wet and dry vacuum cleaner with a bristled pad. This is generally a periodic maintenance recommendation. Daily vacuuming is dry vacuuming as in most homes.
Are your stone floors slippery, dry or wet?
When dry, Stone Carpet, Riverstone and Seafloor are very slip resistant. It also has excellent slip resistance when wet. Even in its standard finish they exceed required slip resistance rating. We can also increase the slip resistance should your particular situation require it.
How much does Stone Carpet cost?
The Stone Carpet range is very competitively priced against other quality hard flooring options. Our prices include installation and are no more expensive than a reasonable quality ceramic tile. Also, you are only charged for the actual area installed. You are not paying for any wasted cuts. Our prices begin at $155 per 2m. Please contact us for a free quote.
What is the life expectancy of your floors?
Our Products are very durable. If the simple maintenance steps are followed then your floor will last for many years. We recommend after approx 5 years, a light coat of stone Carpet resin (see us for details) be applied, which will restore the original lustre.
What colour options are available?
Seafloor and Stone Carpet can be manufactured into over three hundred different colour ways. Riverstone is available in an extensive range of natural tones.
Can I colour match my Stone Carpet floor with my joinery or paint colours?
Absolutely. For only a modest surcharge we can create your Stone Carpet floor in the colour/s of your choice.
Can I custom design my own floor?
Absolutely. We can create almost any design from corporate logos to abstract works of art. We have made dragons, spitfires(WW2) and intricate Celtic designs, logos, ferns and Koru's. We can add tumbled paua chips, pink mussel shell, glitter and other feature additives.
I am asthmatic, is Stone Carpet suitable?
If you are asthmatic, look no further. Dust mites cannot live in the floor. Also, the pores in our floors will store settled, free flying dust. This means the dust is not being stirred up into the air when the floor is walked on. The dust can then easily be removed with a vacuum cleaner.
What variety of finishes is Stone Carpet available in?
The Stone Carpet range is available in a minimum of twelve different finishes spread across three different product ranges. We are also creating beautiful vertical Stone Carpet features for bathrooms feature walls and just about anywhere.
Where does Stone Carpet originate from?
Stone Carpet was created more than thirty years ago in the Netherlands. It has grown to be a very popular range of flooring throughout Europe, North America and New Zealand.
How long has it been available in New Zealand?
The company has been manufacturing beautiful flooring in New Zealand for over twenty years.
Are they suitable to be used as a shower floor?
Seafloor is well suited for the base of 'walk in' showers. It is non slip, can be coved and has no grout to discolour or stain. As it is continuous (without joins, cuts or grout), it is ideally suited to enhance the aesthetics of small fiddly areas.
Are your products suitable for commercial environments?

Are your products environmentally friendly?
Yes! Our stone and other materials are New Zealand sourced and made. Our stones are an almost unlimited resource. Unlike many other hard flooring products available in New Zealand, ours do not arrive here after travelling half way around the world. You could say our carbon footprint is very small. The same principle applies to our manufacturing processes here in Christchurch.
There are some special pebbles on our property, is it possible to use these in our floor?
Yes, it is often possible to make a special feature with your stones or shells.
What are your floors made from?
Our floors are made from specially sourced river stones/pebbles and sand from quarries around the South Island. They have been tumbled and smoothed by the pressure and movement of glaciers from long ago.
How long after installation can I walk on my Stone Carpet floor?
The floors can be walked on 16-24 hours after installation, this figure is dependent on room temperature and relative humidity, which will determine drying time.
I live North of Auckland, can I have Stone Carpet in my home?
Yes, we install our products throughout New Zealand.
What are the thicknesses of your products?
Seafloor is 5-7mm, Stone Carpet is 7-9mm. Riverstone varies between 6-12mm depending on the texture chosen.
Can we use Stone Carpet outdoors?
Ves we use specially designed UV resistant resins for external applications. This does however increase the cost moderately.
Can the floors be installed over timber floors?
Yes. However we do recommend that 6mm' or 10mm Tile and Slate (Hardies) be nailed over the timber to reduce movement. Please refer to the technical info for further details.
When in my building project, would Stone Carpet be installed?
We come in at the end of most building projects. After the painters and before any surrounding carpet is installed, please refer to technical instructions.
Do you create other products with the stone?
Yes. We create tables, counters tops, vertical applications eg: behind fireplaces, reception desks etc, please contact me for more information.
Can we have stone carpet installed in Australia?
Yes we can install in Australia. It would need to be a reasonable sized project to make it cost effective. Please contact Mark Deal with any enquiries on installations in Australia and other countries.
